Toxicology of BoNTs is presently a complicated issue to review, owing to several limiting factors. The number of BoNTs is continuously growing and only the amino acid sequence is known for most novel BoNTs through genomic databases. Toxicology data are available only for a limited number of these BoNTs and only for few vertebrate species.Toxicity studies on Z. nitidum are relatively few, thus requiring further study. Conclusions: This article generalises the current research achievements related to Z. nitidum, which is an important medicinal material in China.
